Description

The Applied Measurements DS485DIS is an Digital Signal Convertor LED display module that has been made exclusively for load cells and other transducers that are fitted with the DSC or DCell signal digitiser. The DS485DIS allows up to 8 DSC or DLC (DCELL) MantraBus protocol devices to be connected. The inputs from these devices are then subjected to a range of selectable mathematical functions to provide desired displayed outputs. Summing is one such function, that allow for an overall result to be displayed. Other functions include split set monitoring and multiple sensor displays.

The DS485DIS has several modes. For example in ‘Legacy mode‘ the display can be toggled between gross and a zeroed net display and optionally allows the user to cycle through the individual displays that form the result.

Another example mode is ‘Advance Mode’. Input sets can be configured. This allows two sets to be configured with up to 4 devices per set. Functions and statistics for each set can be configured with an overall result based on the two sets. Regardless of mode, the inputs are all synchronised so the result display is a true representation of the instantaneous input.

This display does require a RS485 interface and the MantraBUS II input protocol to operate. To configure and power the DS485DIS, the device also needs to be connected into a PC via a USB cable.

PC-based configuration of the DS485DIS is very easy to perform using the Instrument Explorer Toolkit software which is downloadable, free of charge.

Example Use Cases

A typical customer will want a DS485DIS for industrial weight measuring. User cases include where you need to know the weight of a silo in real time. The silo will have a number of DS485DIS compatible analogue to digital convertors, each wired into a load cell, that when connected to the DS485DIS will display the total weight of the silo and not just what one load cell might measure.

Another industrial user case would be if you needed to see the weight of two physically separate platforms or silos, at the same time. The DS485DIS is capable of displaying the summed weight from up to 4 connected DSC or DLC devices in each of the two sets.
