What is a DSC-USB?
The DSC-USB strain gauge digitiser is the easiest and most cost effective way of converting a transducer signal into a digital input ready for connection to your PC using a spare USB port for live monitoring and logging of data. The DSC-USB will work with any full-bridge strain gauge sensor and can also be modified to work with 0-5Vdc signals from other sensors such as LVDTs, displacement sensors, pressure transducers and torque transducers. The USB port powers the transducer and the digitiser so no external power supplies are required unless you are using a non-strain gauge sensor (0-5Vdc input).
To complement the DSC-USB is a free piece of software, the DSC Toolkit. The Toolkit allows you to calibrate your transducer with the DSC-USB in your required engineering units and resolution (or let us do this part for you as we can offer a UKAS Traceable calibration service).
Once the system is set up you now have true ‘Plug and Play’ measurement and logging functionality. You can view the live reading on screen and log your measurement results to a.CSV file at rates up 100Hz (100 readings per second) for easy import and manipulation into Excel or any other spreadsheet program.
Now for the real beauty of the DSC-USB. It can be connected to any of our load cells, mV/V pressure sensors, mV/V torque transducers, AML/SGD displacement sensors, and, with the 0-5Vdc modification most of our pressure transducer and LVDTs. We carry a range of load cells in stock like the DBB series and DBBSM series. We also carry a selection of DSCC pancake style load cells plus many more on a short delivery. The AML/SGD is also an ex-stock LVDT-style high accuracy displacement sensor. Put any one of these transducers together with the ex-stock DSC-USB and you get a quick digital solution.
Download the DSC Toolkit software free of charge (note: this is a direct download link). The software has a Demo mode so you can try it out right now!
Multi-channel systems can also be accommodated by using the DSCLog24 software which, as the name suggests, supports up to 24 channels of simultaneous measurement.
