Applied Measurements has been working closely with Integrated Plantroom Technologies (IPT), a leading biomass plantroom manufacturer, to solve the problem of weighing the woodchips in their packaged biomass plantrooms. IPT were having continued problems with accurate level meaurements of the wood chip hopper. Following a number of detailed discussions with Applied Measurements a solution was conceived that is now in use on all of IPT’s biomass plant rooms across the UK.
The weighing systems comprise of between 6 and 8 silo mount-style load cell weighing assemblies depending on the size of the plant, all of which are then wired into a bespoke junction box designed specially for the application. The signal from the junction box feeds into an Intuitive2-L panel mounted digital display that provides a local weight reading in the biomass plantroom.
In addition to the local readout, the digital display also transmits a 4-20mA current loop signal to the main plant control board to allow monitoring and activation at pre-determined re-order levels. The same 4-20mA current signal from the Intuitive2-L Indicator is fed into a secondary loop-powered digital display, the 88-Pro, which is housed in a wall-mount enclosure located in the Managers office of the site to ensure the management have full visibility and control over the re-ordering system and the biomass plantroom.
Darren Skipp, the Commercial Director of Applied Measurements commented ‘We worked closely with the customer to ensure we met all their requirements, this included spending time on site to understand the application in detail, followed by on-site training for the installation engineers during commissioning.’
All of the systems are supplied pre-calibrated and ready for use so that measurements can be taken immediately after installation is complete. The resulting measurement system is an ideal answer to the original problem.
